List Building 101

What if i told you that a lot of people and companies are really ramping up their internet presence. For a multiple of reasons people have been behind in implementing technology for online marketing. We know that you need to be able to use every strategy there is to get ahead of your competitor. Keep ahead of them.

While I was doing a Daegan Smith Review I found that One of the best strategies to use to distribute your promotional material is the use of an “Opt-in” list. The Opt-in list is a list of names and emails of people that have said they want to receive your emails.. When you see a place on a website where they ask for your name and email and offer to give you something for free in return for you to enter your email address and/or name. Opt-in. Giving your information on a website for something free.

If you can get people to put their name on your list there just isn’t a better way to keep in touch with them. Sending them advertising material and offers of your service is easy. Having an Opt-in list is the best way to ensure the people who want to see material from you get it. It is also just as easy for them to Opt-out as it was for them to Opt-in.

Your challenge if you choose to accept it is to keep people on your list by sending them relevant information.

What you can do to maintain the list:

1) Interesting or interested? Just don’t be boring – The first reason people Opt-out of a list is that they don’t see the information as something they would be interested in or the information is boring. You need to keep people’s interest so make sure you’re not boring. People hate to be bored. Don’t keep sending them the same offer over and over again. That is the ulitmate in boring. You need to keep things fresh. The more updates and information you provide the more people you’ll attract. Going Viral is not a disease. It’s when people share emails and if you have good emails people on your list will share the information and so on and so on…

2) People what to know whats in it for them – Benefits – The first reason they opted into your list was that they saw something that was a benefit to them. Always consider if the information or offer you’re sending is a benefit to the list. If they don’t see a benefit to being on the list the will get off the list. That is not what you’re looking for. If you’re not consistent you will lose as well. Your emails need to be consistent so people know what to expect. If you are consistent in providing good value they will continue to be on your list and most importantly they will buy from you when an offer that you present is of special interest to them.

3. You need to be the source of information – The more you know and share the larger and longer your list gets.. Keep up to date with relevant facts in your industry. Become the goto guy or gal.

4. Its all about Creativity and Information. The goal is to keep people on your list. Sometimes its the little things that make a big difference. Give that little bit extra and watch the magic. They can’t resist a little surprise.

So shake it up a bit out there and keep those people on your list.
